Beginning Spinning with Anita Osterhaug - 2 Saturdays

Session 1 – Feb 6thth  10-3:  Spinning is a physical and mental process, so we’ll learn the basic steps of spinning, and the basic working and care of spinning wheels, then practice coordinating hands and feet to create singles and plied yarn.  You’ll leave with practice fiber and a very pleasant homework assignment, plus some ideas for using your first handspun.  Then we’ll move on to create thick and thin yarns, learn how to select fleece, and we’ll see and practice several types of fiber preparation.

Session 2* - Feb 20th 10-3:  We’ll turn from pure technique to imagination, and learn how to design a yarn for a particular purpose.  We’ll practice spinning worsted and woolen, and we’ll experiment with different fiber types and color preparations.

Supplies needed:  Fibers will be supplied, but if you have a specific fiber you’d like to learn to use, bring it along.  Bring your own wheel, or use one of ours in class.  Wheels are available to rent to take home to practice.  Basic notions such as scissors are useful.

Cost - $45 for both sessions, or $25 for one session

*Pre-requisite – session 1 OR the ability to spin a yarn and treadle wheel to maintain consistent wheel rotation.
